Welcome to Mumbiessence skin care. Mumbiessence products are handmade by Rita in the south west of Western Australia. Over the eight years that Rita worked in a local pharmacy she was engaged in the Natural Health field, and qualified as a Health Consultant for Blackmores, Nature's Own, Bio-Organics and Natural Nutrition; she also gained a Diploma from the International Academy of Nutrition. During this time, she realised how common it is for people to develop skin disorders, allergies and general health problems associated with chemicals and synthetic products.

As the skin is the largest organ of the body this is hardly surprising. Most people are not aware that the petrochemicals in many commercial products sit on the surface of the skin, leach out the oil soluble vitamins, and contain no useful nutrients. These chemicals eventually find their way into our bodies; we wouldn't eat them, so why would we allow ourselves to absorb them through the skin? Long lists of other harmful chemicals are in many of the skin products commercially available; do we really know what they are doing to our bodies?

Fortunately, the skin doesn't only absorb harmful chemicals, it is also a wonderful surface for the application and absorption of the numerous beneficial botanicals we have at our disposal.

As a result of Rita's experience she became very interested in natural skin care, and Mumbiessence came to fruition! Our skin care products are full of wholesome, natural ingredients. Fruits, flowers, herbs, dairy products, nuts, grains and flours, pure vegetable oils, butters and waxes are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fatty acids, proteins and carbohydrates, and are most of what we need for healthy skin. Lavish your skin with beautiful shea, mango and cocoa butters, almond, avocado, macadamia, jojoba and therapeutic essential oils, and you will reap the rewards.

Natural soap is produced by a chemical reaction between an alkali and one or more acids, this reaction produces soap salts. When soap is made, the chemical reaction called saponification produces a salt (soap) and free glycerol molecules (glycerin), and so in the finished hand made product, soap and glycerin co-exist.

All types of soap clean and produce a lather, so what makes our handmade soap different to commercial soap? One major difference is the presence of glycerin, which is a gentle humectant (a humectant is a substance which has the capacity to attract and hold moisture in the skin). When soap is commercially made, the glycerin (which is quite valuable) is removed and eventually sold as a "luxury ingredient" for cosmetics and skin care applications. Mumbiessence soaps are gently moisturising, and should not leave your skin feeling taught. Another major difference is that makers of handmade soap reduce the amount of alkali used in the soap making process, to produce a soap which contains unsaponified fatty acids. These act as emollients, increasing the moisturising and conditioning properties of the soap. The major difference between our soaps and commercially produced soap, however, is the absence of petrochemical derived ingredients, many of which cause unwanted reactions in the individual.

Mumbiessence soap is made from only quality oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil and castor oil, and mango butter. Our soaps are fragranced with 100% pure essential oils, some also contain imported fragrance oils. Whichever you choose, you can be sure you're giving your skin and your body only the VERY BEST.
